IMMOVABLE LIVING

Under the High Patronage of the Ministry of Culture, Dar[e] is Organizing, Managing and Funding an Open Idea Competition for a Temporary Sustainable Living Unit

Within the context of the After War, the annihilation of entire villages, and the thousands of displaced, our challenge is to propose a short-term residential unit prototype that will accelerate the return by providing, fast, cheap, and temporary constructions. Temporary should mean more than a couple of years.

This temporary sustainable prototype should house the following program:

  1. It is a family residence for a family of six plus two grandparents.
  2. There is no area minimum or maximum requirement.
  3. There is no height restriction
  4. Active systems for energy and water collection are expected to be added and form an integral part of your proposal.
  5. Since it is a prototype, it is expected also to show how various orientations impact the prototype and how these prototypes can be combined together.

  1. Can be built in a timely manner.
  2. Has a low Embedded energy of construction materials.
  3. Will require limited Energy while construction is in progress.
  4. Will consume little Energy during its lifespan in order to provide the needed comfort (mainly thermal and light comfort) for its inhabitants.
  5. At the End of its short life, the energy needed for demolition, decommissioning or recycling will also be limited.

With the exception of the first point, the rest are how sustainable, green, low energy, architecture is defined.

One A1 Sheet and one A4, Hardcopy on foam board ready for exhibition, plus a digital copy

  1. The One, A1 Sheet should include the technical maps, 3D views of the prototype, along with at least one construction detail,
  2. The One A4 sheet will have an Explanatory text between 250 and 500 words on how the prototype functions and matches the requirements.
  3. One 1/100 model that is NOT part of the Judging criteria and need not be costly.

Three elements are considered in this competition:

  1. Architecture for 45% does it fit the architecture program, is the architecture creative, innovative, and interesting?
  2. Sustainable design for 45% does it fit the sustainable design set criteria, are all the points clearly visible and understandable, graphically and within the text?
  3. The presentation for 10% is the one A1 sheet clear enough, and visually appealing in promoting the entry?

It should be noted that the judging is done over the digital files ONLY, there is no presentation in front of the Jury. Similarly the model is not part of the evaluation process.
